As you know if you’ve read my top 10 film list, I am a huge fan of Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy, so when I heard that they were making a new film I was obviously excited. Finally it has arrived in the form of Nascar flick, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.  Again Will Ferrell is in the lead role with a few faces from the previous film popping up, as well as usual serious actor John C. Reilly, as his best friend Cal. This is a bit ironic as he played one of Tom Cruise’s friends in the previous Nascar film Days Of Thunder. Unlike that film this one does not take itself seriously at all, like Anchorman, a lot of the film is improvised resulting in some totally surreal moments.   The film begins with Ricky Bobby being born in the back of a speeding, and after taking his mums car for a drive he strives to go fast. As a member of the pit crew he suddenly gets the chance to drive and becomes the best driver in the sport, with the trophy wife and his two sons Walker and Texas Ranger. Soon his dominance is threatened by the arrival of gay Formula One driver Jean Girard, played with an Allo Allo accent by Sacha (Borat)Baron Cohen.  The pressure gets to Ricky and he slides into oblivion and relies on his dads extreme methods to get back.  So is this film as good as Anchorman, well it’s got more of a story and is very funny with some classic moments, especially Will running around the track in his Y fronts because he thinks he’s on fire, and Cals phone call when he thinks his house is haunted, but for me it’s not as good, but then Anchorman is a very high standard to match.  The cast are all great especially John C Reilly and Sacha Baron Cohen, who holds his own, admirably amongst the americans, and man mountain Michael Clarke Duncan as the pit boss Lucius shows great comedic skills.  If you liiked Anchorman it is defintely worth watching and even if you haven’t seen that, but love stupid films go check it out. Rating 8/10.
