As the Xbox 360 continues to grow in stature, and xbox live membership, there is one game that has now become a benchmark not just for the 360 but all consoles, that game is Gears Of War. A FPS with some of the most stunning graphics ever seen, where you play the part of a futuristic marine fighting your way through a ravaged city full of not very pleasant aliens. The only downside to this game was that it was a bit short, but you still find yourself coming back. Now in a move that isn’t a massive surprise, film company New Line, they of Lord Of The Rings fame are to make a movie of the game. The screenplay is being written by Stuart Beattie, who wrote Collateral and is scheduled for a summer 2009 release. I could just be being cinical but it seems strange that this film is going into production now, a few months after the other huge games franchise movie Halo was dropped by Universal. The bit that seems a coincidence is the fact that the Halo movie was being produced by Peter Jackson, who recently had a big falling out with New Line over royalties he was owed for the Rings films. Could this be New Line showing him that, at least they can get a games movie made, who knows!  Lets just hope that Gears is better than recent games movies like DOA and Silent Hill. One thing that the film company is going to find hard though is making a film thats looks as amazing as the game.
