I don’t want you to think that this blog is becoming the Dragon Tattoo fan site, but the teaser poster has appeared today following on from yesterdays trailer, and it looks amazing. Noomi Rapace’s boots are very big ones to fill, but just going on appearance it looks like Rooney Mara has it down. We shall see.

Ok Go On The Treadmills

Following yesterdays cheesefest video for the Hoff, comes one of those videos that you see and think’what a great idea, why hasn’t anyone thought of that before’.  The video is from American Band OK GO, who gained a bit of fame earlier this year when their amazingly choreographed video for ‘A Million Ways’ got into the records book as one of the most downloaded videos.  I was lucky to see them live supporting Brendan Benson, and even met them after the gig as they were signing cd’s. My mate even had a conversation with one of them about how he knew their songs from a John Madden computer game, the song in question was Get Over It which you will probably know if you heard it.   You can check out the new video at the following address and while there check out the video for A Million Ways, it’s great.

If you listen to Scott Mills afternoon drivetime show on Radio One you will already know about this, but if not get ready for a vision of hell. Scott has been playing a new track from David ‘The Hoff’ Hasselhoff, called get in My Car, and has been describing the video, but it’s nothing till you actually see it!! This video is so wrong on so many levels, it’s like a car crash you just can’t help watching.  The video can be seen here:

The worst thing is that now because of Scott Mills constant Piss taking, the record company have now decided to release it as a single here in the UK. Noooooooooo!!!!!  He is even hoping that he can get his listeners to get it to number 1. Well been worse at the top of the charts lately!

Well as I write this there are only a couple of hours till the winner is announced, but who will win this year? This is a strange prize to guess as in the past it has been won by some totally unexpected artists. The prize of £20,000 is for the best British album which last year was won by ‘American’ Anthony And The Johnsons. Past winners include, Primal Scream, Pulp, Suede and Gomez to name a few. So who’s nominated this year?

  • Arctic MonkeysWhatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not
  • Isobel Campbell and Mark LaneganBallad of the Broken Seas
  • EditorsThe Back Room
  • GuillemotsThrough the Windowpane
  • Richard HawleyColes Corner
  • Hot ChipThe Warning
  • MuseBlack Holes and Revelations
  • Zoe RahmanMelting Pot
  • Lou RhodesBeloved One
  • Scritti PolittiWhite Bread Black Beer
  • SwayThis Is My Demo
  • Thom YorkeThe Eraser
  • So Who’s my money on? Well everybody thinks The Artic Monkeys will win, but i think they are too popular and their singles have been overplayed. I also don’t think Thom Yorke will win, it’s a good album though not as good as the Radiohead stuff and they never won with OK Computer!! I don’t think Editors will win as the album is quite old now and even though i would like Muse album to win, as it is fantastic I don’t think it will. Richard Hawley is getting a good buzz so could have a chance, as are the Guillemots. No my tip for the prize is Hot Chip’s The Warning. The first Single Over And Over was just a perfect pop/dance tune that just lodged itself in your brain and wouldn’t come out, they then followed it up with the sublime, Boy from School, a beautiful ambient tune. After hearing these two tunes I had to get the album and i wasn’t dissappointed, a great eclectic mix of styles but still with a dancey edge, a bit reminsent of Royksopp. So there you go thats my tip for the Prize, I will be pleasantly surprised if I’m right! Roll on the show! I’ll give my reactions tomorrow.

Tuesday.Oh well I got that wrong!   I am really surprised the Monkeys won, not because they don’t deserve it, but because they are so popular. In the past the judges very rarely go for the really popular choice. I personally think the Artic Monkeys album is very good, the lyrics are fantatstic and it’s very rare for lyrics to stand out these days. I think ‘I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor’ will become a classic. Congratulations boys.

    Definitely Not!!

In poll commissioned by the NME and the Guiness Book Of Hit Singles, Oasis’s debut album ‘Definitely Maybe’ was voted the greatest album ever! This is the problem with public polls, idots vote for rubbish, just look at the single of the year winners! Oasis’s fans are ridiculously obsessed, as anyone trying to get tickets for last years V festival knows and will vote numerous times to get their band at the top. I know trying to pick a greatest album is hard as there have been so many but not Oasis, hey I like Oasis but i wouldn’t say that was the greatest album ever, it’s not even the best album of the last 10 years! The Top 20 looked like this:

    1. ‘Definitely Maybe’ – Oasis

    2. ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ – The Beatles

    3. ‘Revolver’ – The Beatles

    4. ‘OK Computer’ – Radiohead

    5. ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?’ – Oasis

    6. ‘Nevermind’ – Nirvana

    7. ‘The Stone Roses’ – The Stone Roses

    8. ‘Dark Side Of The Moon’ – Pink Floyd

    9. ‘The Queen Is Dead’ – The Smiths

    10. ‘The Bends’ – Radiohead

    11. ‘The Joshua Tree’ – U2

    12. ‘London Calling’ – The Clash

    13. ‘The Beatles (The White Album)’ – The Beatles

    14. ‘Abbey Road’ – The Beatles

    15. ‘Up The Bracket’ – The Libertines

    16. ‘Never Mind The Bollocks Here’s The Sex Pistols’ – Sex Pistols

    17. ‘Four Symbols (Led Zeppelin IV)’ – Led Zeppelin

    18. ‘The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars’ – David Bowie

    19. ‘A Night At The Opera’ – Queen

    20. ‘Is This It’ – The Strokes

As you can see a large proportion of the list are great albums, though I’m not surprised The Libertines are on there, as the NME have made Druggy Doherty into a cult figure, and some people believe everything they read in the mag. Also I wouldn’t have The Strokes in there, a good album but not great! So what would be my greatest album I hear you ask, as I am so ready to slag off this list, well the answer is I don’t know! I do love Sgt Peppers but I also love OK Computer and Ziggy Stardust as well as a lot of albums not on the above list. Sorry I know thats a cop out. So what are your favourites? Put them in the comments, I would love to hear them.

    You’re Annoying

Anyone who knows me, knows I’m quite passionate about my music so what i read this morning had me in stitches. According to sky news, a radio station in Essex has banned James Blunt!! They said that listeners were fed up of hearing ‘You’re Beautiful and whatever the other crap he’s done, something about 3 guys getting semi’s by the sea!(my words not theirs!)  As you can guess I am not a big fan, now if all radio stations could do the same, and while they are at it stop playing McFly!  The fact that James Blunt has become a euphanism for something else says it all!
